King Pocky's Derwentwater Regatta

Eccentric landowner Joseph Pocklington, who crowned himself 'King Pocky', created the regatta in the 1780s after he bought Derwent Island. With madcap teams rowing, swimming and sailing round the island, he would orchestrate a mock attack on the island!

Today's regatta still captured the exuberance and fun of the original with even more events and activities for everyone to get involved in. There was even a canon!
