Bus Challenge No 66!!
Lacock Ford, Wiltshire
On a sunny morning, I set off on a three-bus journey, via Bath and Melksham to Lacock, a 13th century rural village, owned by the National Trust which has remained untouched by modern development. It is probably best known for it's use as a film and TV drama location, with its wide High Street and medieval limewashed, half-timbered and stone houses.
After a wander around the beautiful village, we headed to Lacock Abbey, founded in 1229 by the widowed Lady Ela the Countess of Salisbury, and the home of former Lacock resident, William Henry Fox Talbot, famous for his contributions to the invention of photography.
The aim of the visit was to see the outdoor exhibition, held in the Tudor courtyard, of the winning images from 2014 and previous years of the 'Travel Photographer of the Year' competition. (see extra photos no. 2, 3 and 4 for my 3 favourites!)
A picnic lunch in the grounds, a tour of the Abbey and cloisters (see extra photos no 5 and 6) and a large 99 ice cream, fortified me for the return three-bus journey home!!
Bus journey time = 2 hour 50 mins
Waiting time in between buses = 1 hour 25 mins
