strange bird seen in Milton Keynes

Not this one.

For the past few days Anniemay’s been getting rather excited.  The object of her agitation is a green parrot - she says it flies up and down the canal at the bottom of our garden.

The trouble is, no one else has seen it.  She called me outside one morning when the parrot was allegedly in flight and I saw a tern.  A strange enough sight on the Grand Union Canal, but the bird was most definitely black and white.  I know a tern when I see one.

Mollymay, her sister in Australia and a frequent observer of parrots flying over her own garden, is not convinced either and wants to know what Anniemay’s been drinking.

A couple more occasions - a strange sounding bird, we dash outside and there’s a tern again.

Then today, about 2 o’clock in the afternoon, a green parrot (or more correctly a ring-necked parakeet) does indeed fly over our garden.  Anniemay claps and beams like Tiny Clanger when the Music Tree sings.

“Will you tell Mollymay?”  I nod and send an email to Oz confirming sighting of said parrot and also mentioning that Anniemay has not imbibed in recent days (to the best of my knowledge).

So - the ring-necked parakeet is on the move.  I knew they were in London and the South East, but had not heard reports of them this far north.  Perhaps the twitchers out there will put me right.
