Sweet Badness

According to the announcer on Classic FM this morning, today is National Chocolate Day, which gives me the opportunity to pay my tribute to Cadbury's Milk Chocolate bars.

The Americans can keep their Hershey bars and the Swiss their Lindt chocolate, Cadbury's Milk Chocolate is to my taste the nectar of all chocolate; not good for you, I know, but then when was anything good, remotely moreish.

I understand those bitter dark chocolate bars with a high percentage of cocoa solids are meant to be good in moderation for one's heart, but Cadbury's milk chocolate is not in this league. No it is a bar of nutritional badness, but when the smooth, cloying sweetness of the melting chocolate dissolves in my mouth, I care not about cholesterol or love handles. With scones being verboten at the moment, I am not yet ready to give up my once a day 5 squares of post prandial chocolate.

In the past I have delighted in Cadbury's fruit and nut variety, but nowadays it's the pure unadulterated bar that find its way into my shopping basket.

I am in no way a chocoholic- I can't eat too much of it or I feel sick and hey, 5 squares a day is surely not overdoing it, love handles apart. Still, I wish I could give it up and not miss it.
