Farmer Liz

Knowing that thunderstorms were forecast for the early hours, followed by rain, what else is there to do but have a lie in, enjoy breakfast and a chat and then eat lunch?

Yes, it was a late start at 1pm!

However, with a brisk wind, the cloud seemed to be in step with us today and retreated each time we gained the next level on the ridge up to Skiddaw.

The day became gloriously colourful with vibrant green grass after the rain, blue sky, a mixture of dark and light grey clouds and bright white, newly shorn sheep.  This photo (apart from the lack of sheep, sums up the wonderful afternoon and early evening we enjoyed.)

We were also lucky enough to see a pair of short eared owls quartering over the heather and a calling kestrel family.  We had an eclectic mix of conversation and heaps of laughs.  It’s very different to when I walk alone but much, much fun.

On the way back, we had to negotiate a couple of inquisitive cow fields but Liz, in role as Farmer Brown, shooed them away.  I’m not sure how far we walked but it was a good old circuit and a truly splendid day out.

We finished the day with strawberries, cherries and crème fraîche and a finely assembled, heavenly dinner, followed by tea, Bounty bars and bulging bellies. Bliss!
