Black Woodpecker Babies' Beaks!
One lone 20 metre tree in a clearing of trees ripped up by the foehn wind, dead and branchless, had a tiny Treecreeper climbing up it collecting insects when a cocophony of sound burst from near the top of the tree. A female Black Woodpecker (another first for me) was feeding those 2 massive beaks. Now I know how these magnificent birds manage to hammer holes in trees!
This is the largest European Woodpecker.
