Lochan na h-Earba

Not such a pleasant day today and a shame for those attending the Sunday mountain bike event at Nevis Range. Looking across from Roy Bridge I'm sure the upper stretches would be lost in mist and there have been a few showers sweeping the hills too.
Mhairi and I took Bruce and Caley to Lochan na h-Earba at Ardverikie and despite the breeze, showers and low cloud it turned in to another, spoiled for choice, blip walk. The dogs absolutely love it here. Vast wide open spaces, rolling heathery moorland and of course perfect swimming places. During times of low rainfall (which is the current situation) the depleted loch normally exposes a long bank of sandy shore line at its south end so we were surprised that more beach wasn't on show on this visit. You can just make out the shallow sandy bottom through the waves in this shot. The loch stands at the point of access to three Ardverikie Munros and to the north west a very attractive little hill, Binnein Shuas, separates this loch from the Loch Laggan valley. The SE slopes of BS are partly formed by the Ardverikie wall a seemingly impenetrable cliff face which attracts rock climbers from all over the country. It is a beautiful spot and despite all the mountaineering attractions you hardly meet another soul here.
