Wide Angle Wednesday: Architecture
When it opened in 1941, Washington D.C.’s National Airport was considered ultramodern in its design, aircraft control, facilities for passenger comfort and convenience. Its design attempted to be modern while honoring the classical architecture of the Nation’s Capital and the colonial history of this particular site. Today this is called the "historical terminal," no longer in use, but now serving as a museum. Some very modern, large terminals that have been added to handle the huge amount of air traffic that goes through here.
I have blipped the more modern terminals previously, so today thought I would take advantage of being in the small terminal adjacent to this to see the grandkids off. Although it is decked out in red, white and blue bunting and flags for the upcoming 4th of July holiday, monochrome seemed more representative of its heyday.
After nine days with us, the grandkids are back home with their parents and I am extremely tired and looking forward to a few days of quiet and catching up.
