Tractor Tuesday - Eicher 3145

The "muscle" machine from Eicher built between 1982 and 1990 but only 16 made, not exactly one of the most popular and wasn't able to rescue the company from going under, just like so many at this time.

The Eicher brothers started building agricultural machines in the 1930s using cars from their father's Opel dealership just northeast of Munich. In the '50s and '60s, they went from strength to strength and it could be said they were ahead of their time. However in the '70s after their drivetrain suppliers ZF stopped building certain equipment they were forced into a partnership with Massey Ferguson and as the market generally declined, MF took them over but then also got into trouble and ditched the Eicher production. An Indian, Vikram Lal and then various others tried to revive the production but all to no avail. The name lives on in the form of "Eicher Goodearth", one of India's largest vehicle manufacturers of tractors, trucks and motorbikes (Royal Enfield).

Some facts: 6 cylinder air cooled Eicher 5890cm³, 145 hp motor.. 4WD, 523Nm at 1500 rev/min.

As last week CTJ outdid me on the Tractor Tuesday Blip, I had to come up with something original today. Having heard a lot about them but never having been there, set off with the dogs to Hawangen (5km) and the local Case/Steyr dealer, "Schöllhorn". Although a small yard and workshops it is packed with work and has a very good reputation in the area. It is also noted for being the Eicher repairer/restorer/spare parts dealer in this part of the world. Eicher enjoys a very loyal and judging by the second-hand market, very rich fan club. MrB belongs to the Eicher fans with two tractors. A month or two back met a friend of MrB's who works at Schöllhorn and I found him today. He looks at my Blip from time to time and knew why I was there. He took me to a closed shed and opened the doors to reveal today's special. A bit difficult to photograph as the shed was packed with Eicher tractors and parts. Extra photo was taken from the side.


I wonder if Son of Thunder will have time to see this Blip between mixing the Pimms and twidling his toes in the beach sand. Bet he is enjoying the weather.



Previously had tried a new dog walk from the villages very smart "village hall" or better multi-purpose hall which houses the local sports club but also holds concerts and do's. Our village (Attenhausen) has a very strong Bayern Munich football club fan club who won a visit from Mario Götze the guy who shot Germanys World Cup-winning goal in Rio last year. The do had to be held at Hawangen as the 300+ members of the fan club (only 750 inhabitants) couldn't fit in our village hall.


Dog walk was cut short after half an hour. Flash couldn't cope with the heat. I had chosen a route in the forest according to the map but at least the first part had no shade to offer and no nearby stream to cool off.


Today I managed at long last to get rid of five kidney stones. They weren't large but I suspect they had formed a clump. Hoping that's it for a while. Time will tell.
