Blood Red Sky

I was just putting up a blip for today when I saw this stunning sunset out of the window.. it was too beautiful to not to get some shots of it.

Today was spent mostly around the house as I am out all day again tomorrow with appointments. We didn't have a warm day like yesterday but it was pleasant.

We get these amazing sunsets at times from the nor'west arch. The nor'west arch was dependent on winds arriving from a north-westerly direction ahead of a frontal system.

As the strong northwesterly winds push over the higher ground of the Southern Alps, a wave develops in the atmosphere which results in the formation of this high and middle level cloud downwind of the main divide. The arch starts as a series of "altocumulus lenticulars", which often resembled stacks of plates. As the front moved closer, upper level moisture increased, resulting in the cloud spreading to form the arch.
