Kaimanawa horses.

Yesterday's blip was of two broken-in Kaimanawa horses. Today I was lucky enough to be on a trip into the massive 200,000 acres of army controlled land to see them in the wild.20 of us travelled in a 4-wheel drive bus and we were accompanied by an army major. The herd is currently estimated at 400 and we saw quite a few. Bi-annual musters by helicopter are held and some are sold so as to maintain the herd at 300,so about 100 will be sold next year. The Conservation department have agreed that the tussock pasture can sustain this number . Here a group gallop past me,much to my delight. It is always special seeing animals in the wild.
