Dawyick Gardens
We drove down to Dawycik Gardens today. We left our town in bright sunshine, but as we drove south it got steadily duller, and even a little light rain. When we got to the gardens it was dull, though warm. However, as we walked around the sun came out occasionally and we had a lovely afternoon.
We were very impressed with the tree specimens, some Douglas Firs in particular, and read a lot about David Douglas, the botanist who had brought the seeds to this country. We remembered that he came from Scone in Perthshire and there is a memorial to him in the churchyard there. He died at the early age of thirty five, having fallen into a Bull Pit which had a deranged bull trapped. They found his remains the next day.
Sorry, not very cheerful but I did think interesting.
My extra photo shows one of the Douglas Firs, and one has the HG hugging it, to give you an idea of its height, as the HG is 6ft 4in.
But I had to blip the mecanopsis, as I love them!!!!
