Last Day
It always rains a bit in Malcesine, presumably because of the mountains nearby. We woke this morning to heavy rain which put the damper on a last morning of eating tiramisu for breakfast outside. Didn't matter too much though as it gave us chance to pack for the trip home tomorrow.
Once it stopped raining, it came out hot and sunny and we caught the bus up to Riva. If you arrive into Riva by boat, you see it from it's best angle. If you arrive by bus, you see it from its skanky, run down side.
More pizza, more ice cream and a wander round before deciding that a 1hr 15min boat trip back was a more interesting option than 30mins on the bus.
Then, just as we were about to leave the hotel for dinner, an impressive thunderstorm hit and we'd to stay where we were, with a drink until it had finished. Went to a very posh restaurant for our last dinner - marred slightly by the arrival of a noisy American family who'd turned up in swimwear and thought it was fine to let their small children run around screaming. What made them think it was the sort of place for screaming children and beachwear, I'm not sure. Perhaps it was the elegant décor, the starched table linen or maybe the precarious steep stairs that it was accessed by.
Sad that it's the last day of the holiday. Been lovely to spend a week with Mum in such a beautiful place.
