One species each day (from my backyard)

Here's a Helleborus sp. There are about 20 species and several crosses and hybrids. This one looks much like a Helleborus niger, althoug I don't know why its species name would be 'niger' if the flowers are white. We also have a deep purple one, which I have photographed before, but not yet uploaded, because I wasn't happy with the picture and it is full of aphids. If any Helloborus deserves the name 'niger' it should be that one. If it turns out to be a different species, I will upload it another time.
