Piano Baby

A local group came up with the idea of putting ten pianos in public spaces around West Philly, and this one arrived yesterday in the park around the corner from me. Yesterday I kept going by to see if it had drawn any players as is hoped, but there were no takers. Today brought the Farmer Market (in background) and more people. Someone seems to have made a pyramid of chairs to celebrate the great weather.

Behind the orange chairs you see a large London plane tree with a long diagonal limb, with small branches sprouting along it. It's that way because two years ago there was a freak storm or "squall" that brought down about a hundred large trees along a corridor across the city, and this park lost a dozen or so. Later on that year this half of the park was refurbished and a couple more tall ones came out because they were of invasive species. These new branchlets are some of the new growth that thrives in the new sunlight that's been pouring in through huge holes in the old canopy.

Stealing the show, this little girl joins her Daddy on the keys as Mommy snaps their picture and I gather the day's blip before hurrying to do some work.
