Opening of the High School Yard Steps

Unusually worked in town today mostly to attend the opening of the High School Yard Steps. I also thought the great stinker might be ready today. It wasn't. Instead, I went up the Radical Road at lunch time as it was nice and sunny to check out the view (see extra). I'll definitely go back up there during the Winter when it is less hazy and you get a lower sun.

The restored High School Yard Steps were opened today. They link the Cowgate with Drummond St various Surgeon's Square. They were closed in 2003 for various reasons. I quite missed them so it is nice to see them reopened. One of the interesting bits of information I gleaned today was that the wrought iron comes from recycled anchors

In the evening we went to a talk on the Victorian Sensation exhibition at the National Museum of Scotland. The exhibition is very good with lots and lots of photos. The old views were very interesting. I was particularly amazed by the carte de visite and associated albums. I did miss a bit more details of the technology although Rowan complained there was too much of it. Still highly recommended, but take time, there is lots to see.
