Tales of the Unexpected: Larks and Tigers

The forecast was somewhat uncertain today so we decided to do a familiar walk - The Sailors' Path, which follows the Alde Estuary from Aldeburgh to Snape - there are quite a lot of sheltered areas along the way. It remained pretty cool for most of the day, but at least it remained dry. We parked at Snape Maltings and caught the bus to Aldeburgh. I hadn't missed my long lens yesterday so decided not to take it along today as it was a walk rather than a birding outing. We did actually see a few birds along the way, especially in one area of heathland where we saw Marsh Harrier, Green and Great Spotted Woodpeckers and Mistle Thrushes, then a little further along, we saw what could only have been a Woodlark. It posed quite nicely but without my long lens, no chance of getting what would have been quite a special numbered bird blip. By way of consolation, Mr PB a spotted this magnificent moth on the Marsh. I think it's a rare yellow form of the Scarlet Tiger Moth.
