Arch Suspension, butterflies and Kites

Today was spent visiting National Trust properties - George Stephenson's birthplace at Wylam; Cherryburn, (the birthplace of artist and naturalist Thomas Bewick); and Gibside - a stunning landscape garden in Rowlands Gill.

Also at Wylam is the Hagg Bank Bridge - an early example of an arch suspension bridge. The bridge paved the way for the Tyne Bridge in Newcastle and the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Additional photos of a Red Kite at Gibside and a Speckled Wood butterfly at Wylam.
