New Arrival

Today's picture is of Aylesbury Prison, which was built by the Victorians in 1847 as the County Gaol. It's role has changed a number of times over the years, including being a women's prison, an all male prison & is now a Young Offenders Institution. It was in the news in 2009 when a female prison officer became pregnant by one of the inmates & in 2013 was the subject of a TV documentary. It is built almost opposite the old Workhouse which still stands. It was formally known as Tindal Hospital which has since relocated and its future is uncertain.

Went to Aldi which killed me then here then the Workhouse & then I called at the demolition site in the town, couldn't park so took a couple of shots from the car (stationary in the car park I should add).

Home now & feet up !

My additional shot today is of the old (1844) entrance to the Workhouse. Everything in shot is original & is Grade II listed. It would have comprised of a Porters lodge to one side & on the other a Board Room . Inside both buildings have been adapted into offices.
