Roussillon

We cycled over to Roussillon from Gordes in the blistering mid-day heat.  We stayed here a few years ago and wanted to come back.  The walk through the ochre quarry is still amazing value at €2.50.  They could charge 4 times that and it would still be worth it.

The amazing colour is caused by iron mixed with sand.  We suppose it's the same chemistry as we experienced in Namibia.

Amazingly,  the colour really is like this.  I have not done anything with it apart from using a polarising filter.

The cycle back was a little longer as we decided to detour via the hilltop village of Murs.  It was extremely hot and involved a lot of climbing.  20 miles total.

Going for a cool down in the pool now

My extra picture shows some lavender near Roussillon
