STAGING POST

Just the hint of sunshine and this quiet corner of Romsey becomes a welcoming oasis.
The Coach House at the White Horse Hotel is one of the hidden gems at the town centre hotel, and with the option of taking a drink or meal at an outside table in the courtyard, this corner holds plenty of appeal, just a step or two off the main street.
The White Horse easily holds the record of being the oldest inn in the town, boasting 600 years of history as a coaching inn.   Even now, designs and paintings on internal walls and beams have been discovered that date from the 1500s and 1600s. Tudor motifs and roses can still be seen in parts of the hotel.

On a warm summer’s day like today I’ll plump for being outside where the courtyard, once essential to its role as coach staging post, provides an equally restful stopover, that would have greeted the travellers of a time in the past.
