The boy child's rowing club had its annual race day and barbecue today, so Mme Tepeka and I popped down to watch the proceedings. The boy child was racing twice - once in a double scull and once in a single.

The pic is of his first race, in the double. Thankfully, he wasn't in the boat that capsized. And yes, that is a foot sticking up out of the water. The rescue boat was on the scene in seconds and both the lads got out safe and sound, if a little damp and dispirited.

So the upshot of the minor drama was that the boy child and his friend won their race in the double, though they both lost their single races. A fifty percent success rate - not too bad when they both only took up rowing a few months ago.
