Proud to be a Brummie 2: Newman Brothers

Newman Brothers was established as a company in 1882 in the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham making fittings for coffins for rich and poor alike, including those on the coffin of Sir Winston Churchill.  They closed at the end of the twentieth Century but reopened recently to allow the public to see what these old companies were like.  We visited today and had an absolutely fascinating time.

This image is of a table in the warehouse where each and every fitting was individually wrapped in brown paper before it was sent out.  You can see an assortment of the fittings they made.  In the extras, you can see the stamping room where the metal was stamped into shape, and the shroud room where shrouds and coffin linings were made and another view of the Warehouse.
