Our first stop this morning was the Vatican and we were feeling pretty smug with ourselves for prebooking tickets as we were able to skip the huge line to get in!
The museums were full of interesting artefacts and we particularly enjoyed the Egyptian collection (which included a real mummy!) however it was so busy you had to sort of look at everything whilst moving along!
Obviously the painting in the Sistine chapel was incredible but with the massive crowd that was in there and the guards constantly shouting 'no photos' and 'move along' it didn't feel particularly like a chapel where you could stop and contemplate or pray...!Once we had been around all that was open we headed back to hotel for a brief siesta to escape the 30 degree + heat us British people aren't used too!
Then we decided to head to the Colosseum, which we had prebooked tickets for too. I would highly advise visiting late afternoon/early evening as the crowds had completely disappeared by the time we arrived and we were admitted straight away to a fairly empty colosseum. There was a bit more to it than I had anticipated, like two exhibitions and collections of things found in the colosseum.
After we had our meal in a busy, atmospheric piazza where we plan on eating again tomorrow. Now to bed, for my feet and myself are shattered!
