Between the devil and the deep blue sea...

When I took the dogs for their normal afternoon walk today I had with me my long lens set (a 200mm with a 2x converter) as I wanted to take pictures of the 5 new cygnets that have been hatched this week to the resident swan pair. However, when we arrived at the pool their was a flock of nineteen canada geese on the edge of the pond. Seeing the arrival of the dogs they decided to take to the water fairly speedily. However, the male swan saw them entering his territory and in true protective parent mode decided to shoo them, off. I find it very ironic that the aggressive stance of the swan is to puff its wings out almost in a heart shape. The canada geese quickly got the message and headed out of the pool.
