Kinnettles Castle, Angus
The sun was actually shining today! No rain! Hooray:-) Took the scenic cross-country route to Arbroath, passing this pretty castle on the way, all set up for a wedding in the marquee.
We had the most delicious fish and chips sitting on the benches by the harbour (they always taste better there!) and then walked round the walls trying to take arty shots like Apothecary7 and failing dismally.
We watched several birds doing odd things, including a pair of pigeons trying to put their heads in small drainage holes in a wall. Presumably there must have been insects inside, but they looked at risk of getting their heads stuck:-)
We also saw lots of these little birds in my extra photo and assumed they were sand martins (they were on the sand, after all!), but have since discovered they are actually house martins and their white rumps were very visible in flight.
There were also swallows skimming the top of the burn as it goes into the sea, again catching insects we assume and not interested in the tiny brown trout we could see in the water!
A most enjoyable day and hope this weather will continue, as we've waited long enough for summer:-)
