Comfrey

Well, we made it through a wild day and night and only my pale pink fuchsia has suffered. Everything else seems to have perked up after a mighty watering. Not exactly glroious yet but the rain has been reduced to localised downpours - quite a few over Ahakista.

We ventured into Bantry this morning on various errands. I really liked this energetic but contemplative couple (see extra pix) who were just sitting (in the chill wind) and admiring all Bantry had to offer. I especially liked and respected her furry seat! Just in front of them the rooks were busily foraging - this one (see extras again) has a crossed beak but it doesn't seem to stop him flourishing. I've noticed him for at least a couple of years. A little further on and the Wexford strawberry man had pitched his stall. We availed.

This afternoon Mags came to restore my hair to its rightful colour - very civilised for the hairdresser to come to you for you can enjoy tea and papers and chat in between proceedings.

Today's blip is of comfrey and is part of the tinytuesday challenge organised by WalkingWombat after the highly successful maymacromayhem goings-on. Comfrey is an interesting plant. It is - really! We have a bed of it which sorts out the contents of the septic tank - you would need to ask Himself for the technical explanation. It also makes a brilliant if very stinky 'tea' or manure. You literally just steep the leaves in water, leave for a few weeks and the resulting thick brown smelly liquid is an excellent fertiliser. Just don't get it on your hands! It also makes a good tea for colds and chestiness; and a poultice applied on wounds works wonders apparently. Bees love it, it looks pretty and it grows everywhere! What's not to love!
