Beauty pageant ...
Fred wakes early after not having slept well. Andy has been having doubts about the trip after agreeing everything last night and to top it off its raining. We get a text from Angel suggesting we hire a car today and get some of the villagers to take us back on bikes tomorrow. Obviously this is going to cost more and we felt we were paying as much as wanted to with the bikes. We to and fro and ask if costs can be reduced elsewhere, ie hers and the agents fees, but we don't manage to agree on a price and the morning is disappearing so we end up cancelling. Fred is disappointed but we only have a certain budget so head out to see if we can sort anything else out. Andy isn't so bothered but we didn't come all this way for nothing so at least need to see what we can do.
It's a long walk into the main town and we stop at a small coffee shop where we practice our Indonesian with the owner and his friends. As we log onto his wifi we see there is a tour company in the vicinity as we are picking up their wifi signal so we go In. Again, after much chatting in very broken Indonesian and English we arrange a driver for tomorrow to take us round. We won't have a guide and no overnight stay in the long house but we will visit all the places we were going to go to and for a much cheaper price. Negotiating is difficult and takes time here.
On our way back to the hotel we spot this weird child beauty pageant going on. Strangely enough it's all Muslim women with their children so they are all in headscarves and covered while the kids are in makeup and high heels. They are loving it though and the little boy in the middle camped it up completely when he did his runway walk ... just seems a little odd to us!
