A strange statue at the service station

Today is mainly spent on the bus to Sintang. It leaves at 8am and arrives at about 5.30pm with only one short stop at a service station. It's comfortable enough with air con that works but there are long parts of the road which are incredibly bumpy so its a long journey.

We book in at the hotel recommended to us by the agent we are meeting here to discuss our trip. It's another large, faceless place mainly used for corporate activities. There doesn't appear to be any small guest houses around and we only saw one other hotel while driving through town. They definitely don't expect tourists in these parts.

We ring Sesep, the agent, and he comes to the hotel with Angel who he says will be our guide. We talk about what we want to do but struggle to agree a price. When we spoke to him on the phone before coming he refused to discuss money and said it would just be nominal petrol charges, however, there is a hefty chunk for a hire car and driver. We eventually agree we will go on motor bikes and get the price down so agree to leave in the morning on a two day, one night, trip which includes an overnight stay in a long house in a Dayak village.
