Fleeting days
My niece moved into a new apartment today. This is Jennifer. I have blipped her before. Oh she of the orange hair. I stopped by the new apartment to drop some stuff off to my sister who was there and it amazed me how many things she had that I recognize. One of the things that caught my eye was this dream catcher.....
One day I had Jen and I think her brother over. Well I actually think they were separate days but I digress... I thought it would be fun to make dream catchers as I explained they would trap bad dreams and there would be no nightmares.
We went to the beach and they found shells with holes and anything that appealed to them to tie on. I then had them go through my beads and pick ones that stuck out to them. I recommended thinking of the earth and sky.
At the house we chose forsythia branches and put them into a circles. I then helped them string them and tie the stuff on saying a statement like: this shell represents the beach and the waves drifting me off to sleep.
( I had no idea what I was doing but it worked.) they both hung them above their beds for years. They still have them. It brought tears to my eyes remembering that day and their innocence as we made them and wished the bad dreams away. It was 19 or 20 years ago but today it seemed like yesterday afternoon.
I was one of those aunts. Most of the time we had fun and laughed. I miss those days. They are all grown up now. I wish there was a dream catcher that I could make with them today to take away their fears, and bad times, and dreams that wake them at night. But these are the times that hone them into people they become.
I love my nieces and nephews and have special memories with all of them. I hope they always will of me.
Good morning to Oz and beyond and good evening to the north.
Oh and Tony Tigerbear thanks everyone for their love yesterday . I read all the responses to him. He fell asleep. Such is his life.
