Crete(3) - Elounda and Spinalonga

We had a holiday in Elounda over 20 years ago and feared that it may have changed dramatically since then. We were relieved that this was not the case and it still retains its charm as a lively small port with its fish restaurants and sandy beaches.
Off shore is the island of Spinalonga, once an Ottoman stronghold and, until 1957, the location of a leper colony.. Some work is being done to restore the buildings but even without that it is an interesting place to visit. This picture is from the island looking across the bay to Elounda
