North Wales

Narrow lanes,
hollows and hillsides,
stone outbuildings, and
abandoned slate quarries.
A flock of crows winging across a windy wet-washed sky.
Rolling landscape punctuated
by deep ravines of larch and ash.
Pastures shaped by hedgerows and
everywhere flocks of sheep and lambs.
Pennant Mellangell, Llandrindod, Llangollen.
Around a curve in the narrow lane A. takes us into
a community garden tucked into a hillside;
lettuce, beets, and a bees' hive.
Welsh countryside: land of ancient yews, abbey ruins, stone circles, holy wells, magic, story-tellers, poets, singers,
a gentle language, and above all...
generous hospitality.
