Y-C N-H Chicks

We have chicks! Well, the herons nesting above my house have no chicks yet, but I've located two more nests just a block away. The herons usually nest in small colonies. I was excited to see four lively chicks in one of those nests. Mama or Papa sat on a nearby branch, preening. The other parent was probably at the creek eating crabs, which will be regurgitated and fed to the chicks.

And I'm leaving on a trip tomorrow... happy to be going to visit my daughter in Hawaii... but I'll miss these birds.
