This is 'Pterostichus madidus'. Apparently a very common beetle. If it's that common why can't they give it an ordinary name????

Update re: Strawberry trouble .... they have finally agreed to give us a refund for the damaged plants .... so not too bad. Particularly as they are all showing signs of new growth!
