Jubilee Beacon

Backblip. I'm a bit late since I lost the password for my blip account over the weekend and to get a reminder it would have gone to my registered work email.

I forwent the finale of the Jubilee concert to climb up Darwen Tower for the beacon lighting. It was quite exciting, not for the beacon lighting but the fact that the tower was flood lit which stole the show. The beacon was just a large gas flame. The evening was bright and clear with a fiery red sunset and then the nearly full moon crept over the southern horizon it was just magic.

The history of the tower is that it was built from public subscription for the Jubilee of Queen Vic, a historic link here. Not sure public would be too willing to dig in their pockets to fund such an enterprise today.
