One man's trash
Oh my god I love these and feel I must have them. They are at the transfer station. Sue, my neighbor, will get them for me this week. I plan on making a screen for my deck out of them.
They are stunningly patinaed ( yup made that up, deal)
I don't get this. We always had a dump. Suddenly it's a transfer station. Or as I like to refer to it: the land of "ahhhhhhhh"
It's like a dream to a person who is basically unorganized. Everything has its place. It's amazing how trash can be so neat.
There is a barn ( ok it's a prefab garage but they call it a barn. I am from the northeast. I know barns, this is not one). You can put stuff that other people would want in it. Its where all the hoarders go.
I went today to dump a whole pile of stuff, metal is free, recycling is free, and furniture is 5 bucks to dump. My car was fuller on the way back.
My treasures are as follows:
1.) old bushel baskets. The wood is fantastic. Every photographer will understand that.
2) a chair with a broken seat for the garden ( I will fill it with a pot of flowers)
3.) huge terra cotta oval pot.
4) an enormous drying rack that extends like 7 feet to dry things on the deck.
5) a dulcimer (seriously a dulcimer from Kentucky )
Things I did not leave with:
1) a sneaker , no seriously one sneaker.
2) a deck chair with no back
4) 3 chipped cups and one saucer
5) scrabble game without the tiles
6) 8 thousand dirty Legos in a plastic bag
7) a stuffed snake
8) 4 huge mirrors.
9. A sewing kit with three legs..
10) various unidentifiable pieces of plastic.
11) shovels......lots of shovels
I am amazed at what this place does. The amount of trash and the types of trash amaze me. People are wasteful.
A man came while we were there and said he lost his phone and did anyone turn one in? Turns out they did. He got it back in perfect shape. Someone found it and turned it in. This was a $600 phone.
Last week Cumberland ( the next town) had a heavy item pickup or as we referred to it.........treasure hunting.
My take:
1) an arbor
2) an ENOURMOUS plant pot.
3) Windsor chairs made into tables
4) terra cotta pots
5) 6 feet of green wire fencing
6) old fence post with a finial
Again things I did not take
1) a sneaker
4) a broken vacuums
So want to make a joke here but won't
5) broken lampshades
6) rugs
7) unidentifiable pieces of plastic.
Tonight, we ripped the post apart, started to stain the tables and arbor..... And I danced around with the beautiful old baskets.
And Wednesday , I will go back for the shutters to make a screen.
One man's trash is another's treasure.
Unless it's just trash.
Or a single sneaker.
Ok until tomorrow people.....
Goodnight Downunder
And, good morning sunshine to the north.
