Third Boxcar, Midnight Train, Destination.....
For all I love sailors, (well, Sailor)... I'm not a boat type person. I laughed last year at the prospect that I would be ill on such a large boat at the P&O to Cairnryan, but my Sailor had the last laugh as I staggered past him at breakneck speed to reach the toilets before anyone else did.
So travelling abroad what to do?
Planes? Given today's climate, I prefer to stay away from them in all honesty.
Stay home? With this weather?
France has been breached before on the Dover - Calais Crossing. I spend it on the deck, gazing out to sea, pretending I liked horizontal wind, rain and the occassional graze on my head from passing seagulls.
Now, we have the option of the Eurotunnel.
What fun. A car, on a train, under the ocean.
Two passport controls, neither of which even GLANCED at my passport. An Upstair and a Downstair on the train.
WINDOWS!!! I was so looking forward to seeing fishes, but no - only tunnel; and the tunnel doesn't have any windows. Is big, and black, and lit occassionally by the tunnel going in the opposite direction.
It is advertised at 35 minutes crossing. Maybe it would have been, had we not been driving too. We were there in 25 minutes. Claustaphobic, nauseating, and disorienting. I think I would have preferred the seagull gashes.
