Formby Squirrel Walk

Monday 25th May 2015 (1003)

I think every week should start with a bank holiday! Decided to beat the bank holiday rush and met a friend at Formby Point at 9.30am. In seven years of visits I have never seen a red squirrel, although I was assured there are some. Today, because we were early, we saw loads! I counted 10 on the first tree. I got quite a few nice shots and it was hard to choose. I've loaded more to Flickr if you are interested. I particularly like the one hanging upside down with no hands!

We then had a walk through the woods and made our way down to the sand dunes at the lifeboat station. We arrived at a good vantage point just as two of the three Queens ships entered the channel to go into the Mersey. We sat and watched them for quite a while as they turned towards us and then to the left to join Queen Mary 2 for their display. An historic occasion. We could just make out the funnels of Queen Mary as she waited in the dock but didn't see them all together. I've loaded one extra photo - Queen Elizabeth is in front, with Queen Victoria behind.

We then enjoyed our walk back through the woods, followed by a nice lunch out. As we left the queue to get in was so long, we did well getting there early! A great day out.

Sorry for the delay in comments last week, think I caught up last night!
