A date with the Yoxford Boys!!
Forever fascinated with wartime Britain I really enjoy the annual memorial service held at former USAAF Station 373 (RAF Leiston). This was home to 358th Fighter Group & later 357th Fighter Group ... but the Germans nicknamed them 'The Yoxford Boys'
This years service and careful planning was interrupted by the good ol' British weather and we had to fit the flying in the slots of flyable weather that briefly appeared ... !! Thankfully Papadog (Cessna BirdDog), Janie (P51) and the Yak 52 all managed to fly their slots to pay tribute to the many airmen who flew from there in 1943 - 45.
Janie was a very welcome visitor to the event as P51s were based there with a model of Old Crow on site to serve as a memory to this. And if you closed your eyes there this afternoon and listen to the sound of the Merlin engine you could imagine yourself back in 1944 ... this was reinforced once eyes were opened and you were greeted by a row of willies jeeps and people dressed in period costume!
What an afternoon with the Yoxford Boys!!
