Great Glen Way

There will surely come a time when we'll look back on this and laugh at what a great time we had trundling along beside the Caledonian Canal for 35 miles on a flat but shitty, pebbly, path, stopping at Fort Augustus for lunch about 1pm and thinking that we'd being in the pub in Drumnadrochit, 22 miles away, by 4pm. Ha! That was before we hit the hills just outside Fort Augustus and before we opted to take the high route. Might as well, we thought, do it properly. Double Ha!

In the end, after much pushing the bikes up steep, gravel surfaced paths and clawing our way up the less steep paths in the tiniest gear, we got to Invermoriston. At least we didn't make the mistake of taking the high route. No, this time we took the laughingly named 'low route', which must have been just as hilly. And just as the start needed to be walked, so did the end. At least we finally found a road. Anyway, just as the rain was starting we found our B&B. At 7pm - nearly 6 hours to cover 22 miles.

Strava - That's Loch Ness in the background and Loch Oich at the top right. Nice views from the top. Getting there, not so much.
