Mossy headstone
After lunch in The Winnock with friend Alison I took a wander down to the graveyard at Drymen Kirk in search of a blip. In the new section I was sadly reminded how many of our local youngsters, most of them victims of road accidents, are buried there.
The saddest gravestone I came across, however, was this broken one in the old part. Moss now obliterates some of the inscriptions, but the top bit (now on the ground) reads "William McColl in memory of his wife, Mary McBeath", and the main section reads:
~ "and their son GEORGE
died 22nd OCT 1881
aged 12 months
~ JAMES McColl
died 14th July 1885
aged 8 years & 4 months
~ DANIEL McColl
died 2nd April 1898
aged 22 years
~ HENRY McColl
died 30th Nov 1900
aged 15 years"
Food for thought, huh?
