A bohemian night out
A night of indulgence at Cafe Royal. Invited by my friends Paul and Anne to a Pret a Diner event where three chefs prepare four courses of opulent contemporary cooking.
This is our host Matt Foster holding the glass of dessert wine which accompanies pudding. Matt is also a hot jeweller, hence the fist full of elegant metal.
The food was extraordinary. Familiar flavours but with a twist. Pea soup in a sphere, the crabbiest of crab salads in a cone and what I can only describe as duck with Waldorf salad (I'm trying that one at home).
Pret a Diner are keen not to describe themselves as a 'pop-up'. To me they are more like the culinary equivalent of Secret Cinema. Once experienced, never forgotten (or, sadly, repeated).
Next stop, Berlin.
