KINGFISHER (Kotare) TOP ENCOUNTER
I swear that this is straight out of the camera. I put up the hide today - I had a couple of closeup branches to my left and the landing branch right in front of me about 10 metres away, ( the one I was aiming to use ) the two branches on the left were very close ( 2.5 metres) and I never gave them a thought. After about an hour - Bllliiiip ! this kingy landed on the closeup branch - I am pleased to say I made a mistake on the setting of my 300 prime lens. there are two setting - one for 2.5 -oo and the other 6m-oo
I had it wrongly set on the close up one - If I hadnt I would not have been able to get this bird in focus - just shows sometimes a mistake can work !!
Its the closest I,ve ever been to a kingy I could almost have touched it.
an amazing encounter - and like a good golf shot it'll get me back there for the next encounter.
I've put up a couple of extra's for those interested - showing the same kingfisher whacking its food into shape. In one of the pics the membrane over the eye is noticable - its what they do to protect their eyes in case something flies off the crab.
