DJ Couture
Went to an event in the really cool roof terrace of a Movistar (mobile phone company) building near our place. It was all about electronics embedded in clothing (the DJs jacket) and was being covered by L-1452. So there was a wee showcase of the various clothing the company (MACHINA) have made and a demonstration of the clothing being used to control a DJ setup (above).
I tagged along to take photos (and partake of the free beer too!) and even though my photos weren't needed, I figured it would be good practice at shooting these kind of events.
There was quite a media presence and also some celebrities in tow (not that I had a clue who any of them were!) and it was being covered for TV too.
I quickly realised that I need to figure out how to use flash properly. I've rarely used flash (My EP1 doesn't have one!) since being advised off it, by no less a soul than Joey T himself. I always try and use whatever existing light is available. That won't do for these kind of corporate/media events and the photos I did take w/the on-camera-flash were mainly horrible. I do have a good Canon Flash (550EX), but that's gonna take a bit of learning me thinks.
Another thing I noticed, was that people shots tend to be very boring to take, but the amount of little, media whorleings who implored with their eyes as I passed, hoping I would snap them was quite revelatory.
DJ is part of a collective, called Los Macuanos and they were a revelation also, never heard of them before, but they were great.
The above shot seemed to capture the different elements of the night quite nicely.
