To Finish the Job
Over the last few months I have rescued this picture and have had it restored. It is an oil painting by the artist James Charles (1851-1906)
We now know that it is entitled "Gathering Bracken - Ambersham Common" It would have been painted in the 1880's. It was sold by the Leicester Gallery in London in 1907 when the residue of the artist's pictures were sold off after his death. What became of it after that is unclear.
I have also had the picture re-framed and here you see the whole job in its finished state.
James Charles lived in the village of Bosham, Sussex.
