Capstan.
I had to be over in Whitehaven for a short meeting this afternoon. Clickychick came over with me and afterwards we went down to the Harbour. BY the time we got there the day was probably at its best, quite windy however.
We had a pleasant time wandering along to the lighthouse and back.. We saw a lot of runners, a family out walking, some rather brave individuals going canoeing and a solitary fisherman. The most puzzling sight was a second or so after I took this shot. The shot is of a Capstan dating from the days when Whitehaven was among the most important ports in the country.
Having taken the shot I turned to look into the inner harbour where there a lots of leisure boats moored to pontoons. There in the middle of them all was a seventy foot (narrowboats are always measured in feet) narrowboat like the ones used on canals! How it got there or why it was there remains a mystery. To have traveled it up the sea from Glasson Dock would in my opinion be a perilous undertaking. If not brought by sea why bring it to where you can't use it?
Strange!
