Gelt Woods.
We had reason to be up in the Carlisle area today so we treated ourselves to a detour out to Gelt Woods.
The woods run on either side of the River Gelt on land too steep and rocky to be of any use. This is fortunate as the result is an extremely pleasant area with a very mixed wood. Many of the trees are substantial impressive specimens.
The weather was a little mixed between overcast and sunny along one of the paths when the sun was out. Apart from being wet under foot in many places the paths are good. The soggy paths could be excused as the river was running high so there must have been a lot of rain recently.
