Local Elections

Spanish Local Elections will be held on Sunday 24th May.....here are some of the election posters, on the boards, near the Pensioners' Club....and they show the current Mayor, who has been in post for the last 8 years.... he is seeking re-election.

The Mayor in a Spanish town, is essentially the town manager/director......certainly, he is not a ceremonial figure.

All the EU citizens, who live in the town, and who have registered, have the right to vote. There is usually a very high turn out.

I think, that because Spain is a relatively new democracy, .......since the death of General Franco in 1975.... pretty much the whole town will go to the Polling Stations, on Sunday to exercise their right.
