VE Day

5years 199days

Today was the school's VE Day celebrations. The children sound to have had a fabulous day. They were invited to come to school in 1940s inspired outfits. Katie has, of course, got a new dress. 1940s style fabrics - broderie anglais, seersucker and floral pulled together with a 1940s inspired pattern I found. I also made a pile of outfits for her friends. They had a street party lunch, complete with Vera Lynn music, waving flags and jelly. Katie was one of only 5 FS children to join in with the jive dance workshop. They had guests to afternoon assembly who remembered VE Day. It has brought a lot of questions from her, but also has been very positive an opportunity. And she loved her new dress.

Piano after school. Her teacher watched her today- as Katie sat there beaming after proudly showing off her progress this week; as Katie grinned when they did a cute little duet together; as Katie bounced with delight at "getting" something new. The teacher turned round and said, with a big smile herself "you really are loving your music lessons, aren't you, Katie?" She is beginning to "know" Katie now. She sees her giddy little feet and realises its excitement, not distracted disinterest. Her itchy fingers at the keys are desperate to know what to do with themselves, not being unfocused. She's having SO much fun. Barbara is exactly the teacher I would have described if I were to say the ideal piano teacher for Katie. She's a treasure and I think she is loving teaching a little one as much as the little one is loving the lessons.
