The Berlin Mall

We've done the tourist thing today. We caught the underground to the Potsdamer Platz where we had breakfast, then had a bit of a wander around the area. I have a great fondness for the square as I remember it from the earliest days post German reunification when it was little more than a building site, but even then full of promise of things to come. Nowadays it is stuffed full of tourists and shoppers and is wonderfully vibrant. Some of the architecture is breathtaking, not least the area in the photo - the Sony Centre.
A new addition to the area is a permanent exhibition of the work of Salvador Dali. I've always been a fan of Dali, but today's experience of the exhibition opened my eyes to a huge body of his work I'd no idea existed - illustrations of Don Quixote, Carmen, Faust, Alice in Wonderland, and many other works far too many to take in in a single visit.
After lunch in the Square, we caught a bus eastwards to the terminus of one of the routes, then back via the Alexanderplatz, passing many of the best-known landmarks, back to the Ku-Dam for a late afternoon beer at one of the smart cafes where you watch the world go by. We returned to our base in Spandau where we had a very tasty evening meal at a Turkish restaurant.
